Life Sketch Question #6 - Did you have any traumatic experiences in your youth?

Actually, this one is an easy question. I was just thinking about this the other day. I wouldn't necessarily call this a "traumatic" experience when compared to living through a house fire or having a major accident, as I have luckily not had to endure any of these life-threatening experiences in my life. However, I will never forget playing basketball at PE one day in Junior High School. I was in the 8th or 9th grade. I was pretty much a geek and I wore big glasses. I loved basketball and I was pretty good for my age, I think. I had just gotten the rebound and I started dribbling down the court on a fast break. It was just me and I had one guy in front of me. His name was Matt Bryson. He was kind of a bully at the time, but I learned to like the guy years later. He wasn't that great at basketball, but he didn't want me to get by him and score. So, he put out his leg and blatantly tripped me as I was going by. I flew forward, my glasses flying off my face and flying across the gym floor. My chin hit the court so hard that I cut myself pretty bad and I started bleeding every where. I had to have about 5-6 stitches in my chin. I remember standing up, blood everywhere and I couldn't see anything without my glasses. But I remember hearing some of those boys laughing at me. I was humiliated. But for some reason, I was resilient and I got over it. It didn't stop me, but made me want to be even better at basketball. I actually learned to like that guy that tripped me that day. Crazy! I'm not sure where I got the inner strength to respond positively from a bad experience. I like to think that my parents teachings and the Gospel teachings had something to do with it! I hope that my kids will be able to respond the way that I did that day.
