Jury Duty (and selection)

What a crazy week! Still jet-lagged from the China trip, I arrived at the courthouse for Jury Duty on Monday morning. It was very boring, just sitting around all day - waiting for something to happen. But I did get to escape to Starbuck's for lunch where I caught up on work stuff. Towards the end of the day, they let us know that jury selection would take more time and we had to report again on Tuesday.

Tuesday came and by lunch time, we had the jury selected and I was juror #3. Crap!

The case was not a fun one - Dustin Van Wolfe was accused of sexual abuse against his 8yr old step daughter. Unfortunately, there was no evidence and it was all based on witness testimony. I really wanted to put someone in jail for what was obviously done to that poor child, but we all agreed that there was just too much doubt. The witnesses were not credible enough to believe - the prosecution would have done better to NOT have the victim testify live in court. Too many contradictions between her recorded testimony and the live one..

The case went until Thursday and then I flew to San Jose on Friday to play in a golf tournament. It was a really long and drawn out week. I'm very glad that I did not get into criminal law in anyway - there's certain types of people that are just very difficult to deal with.....

Here are some photos of the courthouse where I spent the week:
