As I look back at this year's High Adventure, I must say that I really loved the experience and it was super fun to spend time with the boys. Next year, though, we are going to do something more formal - like Camp Firewalker down in Colorado Springs. It will take much less planning and may turn out to be a much better experience overall! I will say one thing though. I very much dislike the last minute drop-outs from the trip. We had 5 YM drop in the last 24 hours. We were able to get 2 of them up to camp on Thursday night, but it was VERY frustrating, to say the least. I'm looking forward to much better attendance and participation next year!
Day 1 was pretty frustrating! I was surprised at how much time it took for me to get everything ready, packed and set to go up. I took the day off, except for a couple of teleconferences that I had to take. We didn't need to meet up until 3pm, but it took pretty much the entire morning to get ready. Part of the problem was that I needed to refill my Tramadol for my back. I was in HUGE pain without it and I was also pretty moody. It was frustrating to say the least!
Finally, at around 3:30pm, we met up at the church. We had Austin Rieger, Jared Picker, Trent Corbridge, Thomas Chadwick, Tyler Hawkins and David Tanner ready to go. For leaders, it was me, Jeremy Huff and Zeb Chadwick.
We got to camp around 5pm. We were thinking of setting up camp, eating dinner, then heading into town to play a bit. But once we got into camp, we just hung out around the campfire. We enjoyed dinner (burgers & brats) and we had a nice Fireside. We talked about motivation, about support, about working hard to go on missions. It was a good discussion.
The weather forecast called for a 50% chance of rain everyday. We actually dodged the rain for pretty much the entire trip. We were sprinkled on a couple of times, but it wasn't bad at all!
The clouds were VERY cool that first night! We went to sleep around 11pm, which was not early enough. With sunrise around 5am, the next day started VERY early!
