General Conference - October 2015 - Saturday PM Session

Primary Children choir - sings Beautiful Savior

Elder Eyring walks through the sustaining of the officers of the children.

New Apostles: Elder Rasband (who dedicated our Temple Site) and two others. Very cool to see all 3 new apostles!

Elder Robert D. Hales

  • Speaks of young adults - some of the issues in the world with young adults (immorality, not dating and committing to marriage, etc)
  • Straighten Up and Fly Right - what his father used to say to him
  • His talk is addressed to the youth and young adults
  • He learned as a pilot to never deliberately fly into a Thunderstorm - we should avoid "thunderstorm consequences" by avoiding them - choosing to NOT participate in activities that could lead to these consequences. For example - we will never become alcoholics if we never choose to drink
  • Counsel from Elder Hales:
  1. You are rich if you can live happily within your means. Don't compete with others to obtain toys. Pay tithing and save.
  2. Education is a good thing - it helps you find employment and can guide you through life. "To be learned is good". Education will also help you in marriage.
  3. Marriage is a good thing - but it does require dating - an important step. Try to observe one another in stress. Does your potential mate tear others down or build them up. We didn't marry perfection, we married potential. It isn't what I want in a marriage, its what she wants!

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

  • He hath born our griefs and carried our sorrows (Isaiah about the Atonement)
  • As I have been lifted up on the cross, even so, men should be lifted up to him
  • He proclaimed that the closest love of Christ's to man is that of the love of a mother for her child
  • Maternal Love has to be divine - there's no other explanation for how strong the love and associated feelings are!
  • 3 experiences of the divine love of mothers - personal experiences over the last 2 weeks

After Elder Holland, we went outside to clean out the Garden while we listened to conference. There were several great talks, especially Elder L. Tom Perry.
