We had our first convert baptism since I've been called as the Bishop of the Severance Ward. The crazy thing is that he doesn't actually live in our ward, he lives the Windsor Ward. We will transition him to his home Ward ASAP and I'm already working with Bishop Pilcher to make sure we get the process started. I was hoping to see some folks from the Windsor Ward at the baptism on Sunday night, but it didn't happen. So - we will just get that process moving forward with the new member lessons.
Garrett is Sam Greene's boyfriend. He's a good kid and I think he has a genuine testimony of the gospel and a desire to really come closer to Christ. I was able to preside at the baptism, although I wouldn't have conducted if I knew before-hand that Shawn was picked to baptize Garrett. It's a little awkward to have the person conducting be dressed in white, but Shawn was comfortable, so I just let it go.
I did take the opportunity to teach the gospel a bit after the baptism and as a part of my "welcome". Elder Tiai did a great job with the talk on baptism, but his Samoan accent is very thick, so I took the opportunity to teach the ~15 non-members that attended. There was a really great spirit at the baptism and I was privileged to be there.
Here's a quick photo of Garrett, standing with Kobe Greene.
