What an unexpected surprise for the Brown family! I'm so glad that I decided to change my travel schedule to make sure I could attend the 5th grade spelling bee at Rangeview Elementary school! What a privilege! Alyssa was one of 13 students that competed in the spelling bee. The funny part is that she didn't want to compete and she felt that she was "tricked" into competing because she is in GATE (gifted and talented education). The spelling bee was supposed to happen on 12/15 last year, but was cancelled due to snow. Thinking of that, we've had snow on the ground ever since! It's been a cold winter!
Anyway, I spent a little time on Monday night helping Alyssa study, but she was very frustrated that she didn't have every word memoried. But, we helped her through her frustration, told her how much we love her and then asked her to just do her best. Well - she WON!! I'm so proud of her!
There were 6 rounds and a practice round. If I remember correctly, here are the words she was asked to spell:
- Practice round: upshot (she almost messed this one up)
- Round 1: Galaxy
- Round 2: diploma
- Round 3: Vocabulary Round - word was hammock
- Round 4: platinum
- Round 5: maximum
- Round 6: Championship Round: tranquil - she said she guessed for this word
Anyway - so proud of her! Here's some photos during and after.
