It's already Thursday afternoon and I'm on a plane to San Jose, once again. Adam has been with us all week long, having showed up last Saturday night. It's been really fun to have him around, although our little family has been so busy that we haven't spent too much time with him. I've tried to play pool with him in the evenings and we've gone to lunch a few times, which has been nice. Losing Mom has been very tough for him and he's learning how to deal with the loss. I think it probably impacted him worse than anyone. Even for me, I still feel like the last several weeks have been a dream. It's difficult for me to believe that she's gone, even though I know that she's gone. Hard to explain....
Anyway, for this week, 2 of my managers have been out of the office as well as Frank and Greg. So, I've had to step in and handle customer issues and really stay out in front of things. It's kept me at the office longer than I would like and its been really tough on Amy. I really tried hard to avoid taking this trip to CA, but I didn't have a good way out of it. The customer pretty much demanded that I attend so that we can all be on the same page for the Blackswift re-DKO. The worst part is that I won't get home until 7:30pm on Friday night - not fun at all! I miss my family and I'm looking forward to spending more time with them. As I mentioned in a previous post, Amy and I need to plan out the summer to make sure we are having tons of fun. I have been working very hard and its time to play some...
Last night, I came home and grilled swordfish for dinner. It was incredible. Everyone really loved it!! Then, Amy delivered a meal to the Mathis family (their basement recently flooded), so I stayed home with the kids and held the baby. It was pretty fun. I ended up starting the fire outside and we made s'mores until past dark. It was so very relaxing to sit around the fire together, watch the lightning in the distance, and enjoy the very comfortable night air. What a fantastic treat! It only lasted for 45 minutes, but it was so great!
Today, I woke up early, ran the dogs, had a 7:30am meeting with Jerry Gao, the lab manager for the Shanghai site, made breakfast and helped Adam install the hitch on his Subaru. Amy took the girls and the baby to swim practice while I did the other things. We both got to exercise this morning, which was really awesome. I made it to my appointment with Dr. Burns and she doubled my dose of anti-biotic for my back. It seems to be working, which is really exciting. I have more energy, I'm in less pain, and I'm happy. So very exciting! At work, I had an important meeting with Cisco to give them the details of the root-cause for the BigSurCR issue that has been plaguing us for close to 1 full year. It feels so good to finally know what's been going on and the overall presentation went really well. I have some important meetings with Cisco and xLSI folks over the next 24 hours, then I will be back at home and I plan to have a great weekend with the family. Amy and I will be taking the Winklepleck's to the dinner theatre on Saturday night. Very exciting!
Although I was not able to attend any of these fun things this week, I did want to post some photos of the kids. Amy has been able to take them to the pool and to several different parks this week and these photos do a great job of capturing how much fun they've had. Amy is such an incredible mother for taking these kids on outings and letting them have fun. She's amazing!
I also have to mention another really fun adventure this week. Last week, on Thursday night, I felt good enough to play for the ward in the Stake Basketball tournament. We played incredibally well and we blew out both games, winning by > 40 points. It was really fun! After the games, I took Jantzen to the Sonic and accidently ran over the curb on an island, banging the underbelly of the car pretty hard. I was pretty mad at myself because I ran over a curb at Lowe's just 2 weeks ago and had to replace 2 tires on my car - cost me $350. Well, I took the car to Tynan's to get looked at this week, because it was making a really bad sound. Turns out the only issue was that there were rocks in my manifold. Here's a photo of the rocks they removed from my car. I still had to pay $800 to get the car fixed as I had them replace the side mirror that was broken several months ago!! It's been a pretty expensive couple of months.
