After being re-schedule due to the big blizzard we had, Alyssa was finally able to compete in the district spelling bee. She had practiced some, but it turned out to be a much tougher competition than the school-level spelling be that she had won early in the year. In fact, one of the boys that she beat at the school-level ended up getting 2nd place at the division I level and he moved on to the state competition, scheduled for 3/12.
Alyssa did pretty well. She made it past the first round, correctly spelling "turmoil". But, she missed her second word as she was given a really tough word. The was given "plaintiff", but the moderator pronounced the word like "plaintive". So - Alyssa misspelled the word - like it was pronounced. But - it was okay. She did pretty well, just to get to the 2nd round. There were only 6-7 rounds total.
Anna Wilson ended up winning for the district - she practiced really hard and did a GREAT job. Good for her!
