Halloween 2014

As expected, this year's Halloween will never be forgotten! Instead of the traditional classroom parties, "cube-or-treat" at Avago and evening trick-or-treat in our neighborhood, we spent the day in Tennessee and North Carolina. I must say that although the day was not optimal, it was still a great day!
In the morning, we woke up in Knoxville, TN. Amy and I both agree that the best way to get Weaverville is to fly into Knoxville. The airport is small and friendly, rental cars are on-site and the drive is only 2 hours. MUCH better than flying into Atlanta! Now that I have decent flyer status with United, baggage check-in is free as well, so it makes it all worth-while.
For breakfast, we enjoyed some southern cooking at the Waffle House near the airport. Honestly, it was pretty good food. We even got to watch them train a new employee, which was entertaining. It put us a little behind getting on the road, but the kids enjoyed the experience.
We arrived at Dad's house right at 2pm. We had lunch and met up with Mary and Adam, Tracie, Dad and Robin. Melinda and Tyler were still a couple of hours out. Lucky for us, Ethan Thomason was in Asheville and stopped by for lunch. It was REALLY great to see him again. He's a good guy - I wish he and Tracie would get back together again. They were good for each other.
After Melinda and Tyler showed up, we decided we needed to do something fun on Halloween, before trick-or-treating. So, we went to the Asheville Fun Zone. We had the place completely to ourselves. It was so very fun! Here are a few photos of the place:

For Halloween, we dressed up in the costumes that we wore for the church party. I was Harry, Amy was my wife Ginny, Alyssa was a peacock, Ashytn was an owl, Aubrey was a cute witch, Jantzen was a ninja last week, but he was optimus prime this week, and Jarrett was a cute little Dinosaur. We didn't get back to the hotel and changed until close to 7:30pm and it was past 8pm before we started trick-or-treating in the cold rain. We did a fun little neighborhood off Merrimon Ave in Asheville. We went for about an hour. The kids got a bunch of candy and it was fun. Unfortunately, due to the hustle and bustle, we didn't take any photos of the evening. Melinda did take a few photos though. Here are some that I pulled from facebook:

(Notice the naked baby with no head on the couch! Definitely Halloween! It was a fun weekend!)

For dinner, we met up with Dad and Robin and the IHOP on tunnel road in Asheville. It was good to have some hot chocolate and something warm to eat. I had chicken-fried steak, but it was overdone! Melinda and Dad almost got into a fight over dinner, but I talked them out of it. Emotions are high - it's going to be a weird weekend! I pray that everything works out okay and for the best!
