Shanghai, China - Part 2

On Thursday, after hitting the treadmills, we had breakfast and then headed out to work. In China, the LSI building still displays the LSI name as "an Avago Technologies Company". It will be a while before they officially become "Avago".

Meetings went really well. First, we met with the Bragi team and reviewed some important aspects of the design. The meeting lasted a couple of hours, then we went out for lunch. We went to a traditional Shanghai chinese place and we ate some pretty wierd stuff! Here's some photos of the food we ate, but here's this list:

Above is the jellyfish (the worst)

This was the pork kidney - the second worst

Here's a close-up of the sea slug - tasted like a mushroom and wasn't that bad!

The fish is always pretty good in China. You have to pick through the bones, but it tastes good.
These fish were NOT good. You have to eat them hole. I ate only one bite and spit most of that out. Gross!
The lobster was pretty good - how can you mess that up?
Here's another look at the sea slug dish. Crazy that I actually ate that!
This was the Abalone dish. These tasted pretty good, but they were VERY chewy. Not my favorite.
The crab, like the lobster, was also very good.
I will say that I enjoyed the shark fin soup. It was really good!

A look at the entire spread. We counted over 14 dishes in all. A few others that I didn't have close-ups for were the duck (with the head), the chicken (with the head), frog, and awesome bread with read bean paste and pork belly.

After lunch, I gave a coffee talk to all of the DI engineers. There were at least 60 engineers in the room. They asked great questions and it was really a nice meeting. It went for about 2 hours. We then spent another 3-4 hours in meetings and didn't finish until around 7pm. We decided to hit a steak place on the Bund. Honestly, the steak wasn't that great and it cost around $300!! Here's some photos of dinner:

Although the food wasn't worth the price, the view was close. This was a view out the window were we sat. Here's another view:

The awesome caprese salad.

An arrangement of gourmet salts that I forgot to try out.

Jack ordered a $50 hamburger. I think it tasted better than my steak!

My steak looked great - just didn't taste like a $100 steak!

For the first time, we actually had dessert! Super yummy, but not the best. Above is the "banana cheese cake". Below is the chocolate souffle - which was the best. The cheese cake was a little wierd!

After dinner, we met up with Devin Burnett from business school. It just happened that he was in town, so we met him at a bar. It was good to see him again, but we were toast! We didn't get there until 10:30pm and we left around 11:30pm. The bar was cool though! It was great to catch up with him a bit. I'm positive that I could NOT do his job. He travels over 400k miles a year! Nuts!!

Finally, this morning we got up and did a 5k run. It was actually pretty cold when we started - you could see your breathe!! But, it was a nice run. We kept a slower pace, which was fine with me - my knee was hurting a bit. Here's our run results:
