We have arrived in Shenzhen now and we've just decided to take it easy and have a "relax" day hanging out in the hotel. I'm completely fine with that - I've had such a long week - it's nice to just take it easy a bit. I'm going to try to get caught up on my journaling while I enjoy the "heavenly bed". I may end up falling asleep as well - jet lag will probably hit me in the next 1-2 hours.
So far, this trip has been pretty good. I left Fort Collins early on Wednesday morning. My flight from Denver left at 6am and my connection was in Chicago. I arrived on time, checked a bag (I never do that, but decided to give it a try this time) and was ready to board. As I walked on the plane, they handed me an upgrade to first class for the flight to Chicago - awesome! I enjoyed that flight - and got some work done (there was wifi on the plane).
The best part of the journey was the long leg from Chicago to Shanghai. Greg Dix did me a HUGE favor and donated a system-wide upgrade that put me in the upper deck of the 747 plane - in business class. Here are some fun photos of my great seating arrangement. The seat next to me was actually vacant - it was a near empty flight!
Needless to say, it was truly a fun trip to the other side of the world! I didn't sleep a wink on the flight over - I just wasn't sleepy, so I did a ton of work and watched a couple of movies. It was fun.
Things changed drastically for the worse when I arrived. At first, I was excited to be landing at 3pm in the afternoon - I thought I would have some time to explore a bit and check things out. Well - things didn't turn out the way I wanted - United lost my luggage!! I had to go 1.25 days WITHOUT my bags, my clothes, my garments, etc. It was pretty rough, but I made it. On Friday - I just worked all day and we had dinner at a little shop near the hotel. The Parkyard hotel was as nice as ever and all-in-all, it was a great trip. I finally had my bag from United around 8:30pm, which felt so good! My contacts had been in my eyes for nearly 2 full days - it was great to take them out!!
This morning, I finally had my exercise clothes, so I was able to get some exercise. I went for a 5k run and my knee started hurting at about 1.5 miles. I really slowed down the rest of the run, but all-in-all, it was a fun run. We had breakfast at 6:30am and then we took a cab to the airport at 7am. Our flight to Shenzhen was uneventful except that Jack forgot his backpack at security and had to run back to get it.
One of the best parts of the trip so far has been Skyping with the family everyday. I really love my family, so it's been very nice to spend time with them on the video calls.
