Colorado Springs Vacation - Day 4

Cripple Creek, Colorado - Day 4! Neither one of us had really heard of Cripple Creek before, but they advertised a fun little train ride and we expected the drive to be gorgeous, so we gave it a shot. I'm glad we did! We really had a great time! The scenery was incredible, the train ride was fun and we just really enjoyed ourselves. We were a little disappointed that the town had turned into a casino town, with virtually every building dedicated to Casino's, but I guess they made that move to keep the town afloat. There's still gold mining done in the mines around Cripple Creek, which is pretty amazing as well!

Jarrett had just woken up when we arrived. We literally got out of the car and jumped straight on the train. We timed it perfectly, which was so awesome!

The train was a coal fueld steam engine and we had soot all over us, which was kind of cool as well!

The stairstepped hill is the outside of the active gold mine in Cripple Creek. They still pull TONS of gold out every year!

The little hill behind the town is called Mount Pisgah - I found this a little nostalgic!

After the train ride, we had lunch at a park in town. It was good to play around with the kids and have fun. Jarrett was so funny eating his cheese that we had to take a few photos!

On the way out of town, we stopped at the Heritage Center - a very cool and free center that shows what gold mining was all about. Very cool stop - glad we did it!

After picking up the girls, we decided to go to Old Colorado City to walk around and have dinner. It was a disappointment for sure! We enjoyed dinner, but the little town was dead, with nothing to really do! We ate at a little french place call "La Baguette". It was pretty good, but their baguettes were hard as rocks - not really authentic!
