After a long day with Google, Jason Welch and I are headed home. It took a while to finally get the internet up and rolling on the airplane, but it is working now. The internet is really the only thing that I like about flying Southwest, so if it isn't working, it is pretty frustrating!
It was a pretty good day at Google, though. Here are some fun photos that we took as we entered the building for our meeting with Google:
The Google campus is pretty crazy, for sure. It's pretty much just like the movie "Internship", complete with free food & beverages, very open working spaces and couches. The meetings went really well and I think we may end up winning some chips from them and we could easily start working with them. Pretty crazy, actually!
After meeting with Google, my other meeting with Cisco was cancelled, so we had time to check out the Computer History Museum. We only had about 30min, so we didn't pay to see the entire exhibit, but we will next time. It was pretty neat. Here are some photos of some of the things that we did see in the "free" part of the museum:
This first photo is of an IBM 1401 computer. These were the old-school punch-card computers and the museum had these turned on and they were doing live demonstrations of how they worked. It was pretty cool to watch, but we only had a few minutes.
The next photo is one of the first fully mechanical "computers". It was designed in the 1800's, but the machine was never built, due to the complexity at the time. I think the designers name was Brummage. In 2008, two of the machines were built to Brummage's specifications and they work great. They are actually very incredible pieces of technology and they really make Brummage look like a genius of his time!
Finally, the Cray-1 supercomputer. Wow! Look at all of the wires that were done by hand! Wow!! Definitely a marvel of it's time. It was pretty cool to check these things out. I really want to go back and visit this place again. I will on one of my next trips out to CA.
For dinner, we had enough time to visit one of our favority places, Vito's. It's located right next to the airport, so it is super convenient. I will say that I'm pretty proud of my food selections this time around. I didn't eat too much for any of my meals and I exercised every day this week. I feel much better, but I still need to lose some weight to really feel good about myself again. I can't wait to start my P90X program!!
Here's some final photos of my dinner tonight (an awesome filet mignon). I didn't eat much of the pasta. The dessert is actually Jason Welch's dessert. I had a bite and confirmed that it was an AWESOME creme brule, but I didn't eat dessert tonight (did I say I was proud of myself!) :)
