Playa del Carmen - Day 4

After such a long day walking at Chichen Itza and down 5th Avenue, Amy and I were looking forward to a much more relaxing day on Thursday. But, we had to wake up early, and get ready to go snorkling. We had already purchased our under-water disposable camera from Walmart, so we packed that up, along with our swimsuits and biogradeable sunscreen, and we arrived early for our pickup at 8am.

The Lomas Travel bus took us to Miroma Point for a day of snokling, laying on the beach, and enjoying the sun on the catermaran. Although it was a gorgeous day, it was actually pretty windy, and we could feel it as the waves beat us a bit while we snorkled.

It was a first time for both of us to snorkle and it took us nearly the entire first session of 45 min to really get the hang of things. However, when we stopped for the second session, we really got into things and we had a blast. It turns out that the water was pretty cloudy, but we didn't mind. We didn't know any better and we really enjoyed the experience. We saw tons of fish, some beautiful coral and some great shells. We also learned how to use the equipment and I was even diving to the bottom towards the end. The life jackets definitely made a difference, though!

Another highlight of the day was meeting some friends from our resort. They ended up being a Lesbian couple, but we didn't let that stop us from being friends and we really enjoyed talking with them. One of them grew up in Amish country in Pennslyvania and she gave us a great education about the Amish people, their culture and their traditions. It was very intersesting. She also asked us about our Mormon faith, so we took the time to share a bit about the religion that we love so much. It made for a really great day.

Here are some fun photos of the day. First, I threw in a few more of the morning view from our hotel room:

After returning from snorkling, we spend the rest of the evening on the beach, reading and relaxing. We also enjoyed some alone time in the hotel room and we just relaxed. Dinner was at the Asian place and it was really good (not as good as advertised, but pretty good.) Here are a few photos from our last evening on vacation:
