39 years old - Happy Birthday

Another year has come and gone! Pretty crazy that time just continues to fly by so incredibly fast. I look around at my sweet family and I'm in pure awe of how big they are and how fast they are growing. Life is pretty tough right now and Amy and I are exhausted most of the time, but it's still a great ride! We have awesome kids and one day, we will look back and really miss these days. They are good days!

I ended up having a really great birthday this year. I was a little nervous about how tired I would be, having just returned from China, but it turned out to be a great weekend. Here's how the day went:

  • Sleep - yep - the #1 priority. I had a great night of sleep and it made me feel so much better in the morning!
  • Breakfast in bed - my kids just love doing this for Amy and I! I didn't actually "eat" the breakfast in bed, but it was so very nice for the kids to bring me breakfast and welcome me home
  • My luggage was lost (again) on the way home, and they delivered it at 5am. So, in the morning, I finally opened up the bag and handed out surprises from China for all of the kids. They really love getting the fun gifts that I bring home from business trips. I also purchased some Chinese New Year trinkets that I will hand out to all of their friends at school during the week of Chinese New Year. It should be really cool!
  • Basketball Game - once again, our little team got killed at basketball, but they scored 12 points (most ever) and I can tell that they are getting much better. I had to call time-out once so that I could argue with the refs a bit --> next time I will handle that differently. I will use it as an opportunity to "teach" the refs instead of losing my cool, which I kind of did...
  • Picnic at the park - definitely the best part of the day! It is so much fun to be outside playing with the kids. The weather was incredible - it was over 70F!! Here are some fun photos of the family at the park:

  • Chill time at home - we even took the time to finish taking down the christmas lights from all of the trees.
  • Movie time - Aubrey wasn't feeling well (we think she had a slight bladder infection from a bubble bath), so I took the other kids to go see "Night at the Museum 3". It was a great movie and I even had a little tear at the end!
  • Dinner - we were supposed to go to Texas Roadhouse, but the call ahead didn't work and the wait was going to be 45min! Plus, Aubrey didn't feel welll still, so I just ordered take-out from Texas Roadhouse and we ate it at home. That turned out to work pretty well.
  • The kids let me open presents - which I really enjoyed - a new pair of hiking boots, new sheets for the bed, and a new clip board for coaching basketball games. I didn't need or want anything, so that's pretty awesome.
  • A fun gift for me - we exercised options and paid $50,000 on the house!! We have a new goal to pay off the house in 5 years or less (I'm hoping for less)
