Although it was a little difficult to organize the service project during the middle of the week, I was able to peel myself away from work long enough to spend 2.5 hours with the Priests doing a service project this week. A man named Dan Lind was in a major car accident about 6 weeks ago. He was hit head-on by a lady who was doing 90+ MPH when she hit him. She was actually fleeing the scene of another wreck she had caused. Poor Dan may never be able to work again, but he runs a small farm! Pretty devestating and I hope that things improve for him and his family.
This tragedy did give us an opportunity to serve a neighbor in our community. Brenda Martin contacted me and gave me the information for Bridgid, the niece of Dan Lind. She lives just across the field and we met at her house. She assigned us to clean out the chicken coup on his property. I was able to assemble 5 priests, the full-time missionaries and Kyle Bateman to tackle this project. In just a little under 2 hours, we finished the project to the surprise and pleasure of Bridgid. She made us Spaghetti for lunch and we enjoyed visiting with her for a bit. I'm hoping we can turn this into future projects to help this man.
The biggest blessing of this project was actually the weather! It was supposed to already be raining and snowing when we met at 10am. Luckily, the weather held out for a couple of hours and we were able to finish before the rain/snow really came down. What a huge blessing! Here are a few photos of our project:
