Creme Brule

That's right - for the first time ever, Amy and I tried creme brule for dessert tonight and it was a huge success! It tasted really great and we even did a great job with the "brule" part! I used a propane torch and it turned out incredibly good. The kids really enjoyed it and so did we! Here's a picture of Amy right after we enjoyed the treat:

If you look closely, you'll see Amy's stomach - she is definitely getting more pregnant. We are probably only 3 months away from having a little baby in our home and it is super crazy to think about that. Wow! I was talking to Peter Lim at work today (he's one of the managers from Singapore and he was here in FTC for a couple of days) and it dawned on me that we are so very close to having another child in our family. I'm definitely excited, but I'm also pretty nervous. I feel like we have such a crazy, chaotic life as it is. On the flip side, I'm really looking forward to the 2 week period where I will stay home to help and just really enjoy the precious gift of having a new baby. It will be a super awesome treat!

Today was a pretty good day. I was in meetings for most of the day and it was very busy, but the meetings went well and we made good progress. The big meeting of the day was my quarterly "pizza talk" with the section. The meeting went really well and I was pleased with the turn out. I just wish that I had done a little more of a "pep talk" with everyone and really pushed home the importance of maintaining our culture and have some fun while we get through this upcoming year. It will definitely be a tough year, but with the team of folks that I work with, I know that it will be a great year!

Tonight, I spent some time reading with Jantzen. It is really the only area that he struggles with at school. He's super smart at Math and loves all of his classes, but he really struggles with reading. I think he just gets bored doing it - he wants more of an instant gratification - like solving a math problem. It was good for me to read with him though and I think I should try to do that every night! I definitely love my little children and I'm so thankful that I've been blessed to have them in my life. They are all unique and I love every part of them!

Ashtyn reported that she had a "better than expected" day at school today and she even had a little fun with some friends about the spelling bee. It think she has rebounded really well and I'm super proud of her for that. She took it really hard yesterday and I don't blame her. My heart just ACHED for her. I wished desparately that I can save her or help her in some way, but there's nothing you can do. You just have to be there for them, love them, and make sure they know that they can pick themselves up and try again! I've actually been thinking about this experience a bunch and I know that even I have learned a ton through this experience and I'm thankful to Ashtyn for giving me that opportunity.

Okay - time for bed!
