Well, I made it through the first day back at work. It was actually a relatively easy day back since I didn't have any meetings to attend and I was able to just focus on getting caught up and work through some issues. Honestly, I could have been more engaged and pro-active, but my heart wasn't into it today. I really missed my family and the great vacation that we had. However, I did get some things done and make progress in several key areas.
At home tonight, I was able to take Alyssa for some X-rays for her braces. She's going to start wearing them soon to help her lower jaw grow out more (she has a rather large under-bite now). We enjoyed a great dinner (soup and breadsticks) and then we had a fantastic FHE. Amy shared President Uchtdorf's message from the January Ensign, then we all made New Year's resolutions. Here are mine:
- Lose 30lbs - I started that today by eating much healthier and getting some exercise. Due to the VERY cold weather (it was -12F when we took the dogs out this morning), I didn't exercise as much as I would have liked, but I was pleased with my diet today.
- Write in my journal at night - the goal is to write at night so that I can wind down a bit before bed and then have more time in the morning to study the scriptures and learn more about the Gospel.
- Keep my thoughts and actions pure - if I achieve any goal this year, it should be this one. I can always do better in this category and with my kids growing so fast and my calling as YM President, it seems like this is an important area for me to "master".
After setting our resolutions, I started a new tradition for FHE. I want all of us to bear our testimonies to each other during the first FHE of every month. We really felt the spirit together as we shared our thoughts about the Savior. I was also a little surprised at Alyssa's hesitancy to bear her testimony. She was VERY scared to do it, but she learned a lot in the process. We were very patient with her, we did not force her and in the end, she wrote her testimony on a note-pad and I read it for her (she couldn't even read it). I'm worried that she has a low self-esteem and she is easily embarrassed. I'm glad that we had this experience together so that we can help her. She is such a sweetheart and I love her dearly!!
It was such a great evening together as a family tonight. I need to try to get home by 5:15pm every night. I even had time to build a book shelf for Aubrey (well I put it together, I didn't really build it). I also enjoyed watching the second half of the FSU-Auburn BCS Championship game. FSU came back from a 21-10 halftime deficit to win in the last minute. It was an exciting game and I really enjoyed watching! Time for bed.
