Tough day for Ashtyn

Today was an exciting day at the Brown home. Today, Ashtyn competed in the Rangeview spelling bee. In my opinion, I'm just impressed that she was even invited to participate in the spelling bee. There was only 12 students in the entire 5th grade that were allowed to participate, so I was very proud of her. However, she had a really rough experience. She was the second person to spell and unfortunately, she missed her word - "sketch". She wanted to be sure not to forget the "t", so she said "s"-"t" and at that point, she had already missed the word. She even hesitated for a second, knowing that she messed up. Amy and I felt so horribly bad for her. Poor little girl!! She feels so embarrassed now and she's even afraid to go back to school. But, she's working through it. Amy and I both spend some time with her, helping her to know how loved she is and that her parents are here to support her, no matter what!!

Although she wasn't proud of her results, I'm still very proud of her for trying, competing, and working through the disappointment. Here's a photo of the spelling bee participants:

The rest of the day went pretty well. Work was pretty good. I had several customer meetings today, but they all went well and I think things are moving ahead as expected. I have my coffee talk with my section tomorrow. I'm definitely a little nervous about it since I plan to spell out the staffing plan for this upcoming year for the entire section. It's going to be a tough sell in many ways and there's definitely some risk in how things will pan out. But, I'm hoping that things will go well and we will have a very constructive meeting tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it will go long, though!

Tonight was mutual and we only had 3 young men show up, which was a little shocking. So, we took the time to nail down a date for the high adventure and I think we have a really good plan. We're going to do a little backpacking and spend some time fishing and having fun. It should be a blast.

Time for bed!
