This year started off much like last year ended - with another quick trip for work. This time, I flew out for a one day (and overnight) trip to San Jose. The main purpose of the trip was to attend a hockey game with the Insieme (now Cisco) folks. It was really a great game and it was fun to hang out with the Insieme folks. Although they can be a pain to deal with, I've enjoyed working with the Insieme folks. I have a feeling that I will be meeting up with them a BUNCH this year as we are currently working on 3 chips with them (Lacrosse, Sugarbowl and Whitepine) and we may add Sugarcup and make it a 4th chip. Given that all 4 chips are scheduled to tape-out this year, I expect some pretty intense meetings and discussions with them throughout the year. We are doing everything we can to staff the programs, work on methodology and try to get everything in place to make the programs successful. I just pray that we can be successful!!
We also had a quick meeting with Deepak, Hari and Lailit from Cisco to discuss the SM28 test chip and design. The meeting went really well and I think we have a much better understanding of where we want things to go for the test chip. Most importantly, we successfully have them on board with the idea of doing the SM28 test chip in 28nm instead of 16nm. We showed some great data on how to get their design to run at 1.2GHz instead of 1.0GHz, so things look really good right now. Although the meeting only lasted for 45 minutes, I'm very glad we flew out for the meeting as it was good to meet with the customer and really hash out the problems and solutions together.
As for the hockey game - it really was fun. The Sharks won 4-1 with 3 goals scored by the Sharks in just the 2nd period. It was really fun to watch the game and enjoy the experience. I ate too much food, but after really watching my diet all week long, it was very nice to let down my guard a little and enjoy some food. With a 6:30am flight in the morning, I won't be able to exercise on Friday, but I will try to get back on track with the diet. Here's a fun photo from the hockey game:
