Amy's Birthday 2014

I really love my sweet wife Amy - she's incredible!! I marvel at how blest I am to have her in my life. It's amazing! So very blessed. She turned 38 today and honestly - I did a crappy job at helping her feel special for her birthday. I really should have gotten up early and made her breakfast in bed or something. Instead, I stayed up late on the iPad and then slept in. Stupid me! I am definitely letting entertainment take control of my free time instead of using that time to dedicate to those I love - which will ultimately give me more life satisfaction and stress-relief than my media-driven free-time that I waste today. I've also realized that my life is just not going in the right direction unless I am studying the scriptures and writing in my journal. I have definitley slacked off on that and it's time to get back on the right track. In my prayers for this week, I have committed to my Heavenly Father that I will be more dedicated to The Lord this week. I plan to do just that. In fact, I may not be able to go into the temple in Ottawa this week, but I plan to stop by, take pictures and study my scriptures on the temple grounds if possible.

Okay, regardless of my lack of preparation and execution to make sure that Amy had a great birthday, she still had a great birthday, thanks to her family. It turned out to be a really great weekend and the day was very special. Church wasn't until 1pm, so we just enjoyed the morning and it was pretty low stress. The kids took baths and showers and I even helped Amy to give baby Jarrett a real bath. He seemed to really like being completely in the water and cleaned. He is such a really good baby. He's always happy and he sleeps great at night. He does love to eat and he gets mad when he's hungry, but he's just like all of the rest of our kids in that regard. What a sweet little baby!

Church was actually really good. I was SUPER tired during sacrament meeting - I'm not sure why. I attempted to stop taking my Tramadol - since my back had been feeling better - I think that was the issue. I also started having some abdmonial pain and I rushed to the bathroom like 10 times during the day. It was very uncomfortable. In retrospect, I think I've stumbled on the root of the intestinal issues that I've been dealing with - withdrawal symptoms from Tramadol. As long as I'm taking it, no issues - but when I try to stop, I have massive pains. Very interesting!! I only have 6 pills left, so I plan to take just one per day this week, then I will try to go off them again - I'm hoping that with a gradual step-down, I won't have the side effects. I will be contacting my doctor about this, though! Wow!

Back to the day - Sunday School was a really great lesson - we discussed King Solomon. He was such a great and wise man, but prosperity and success drove him to lose this guidance/companionship of the spirit. His heart was on the things of the world instead of being focused on The Lord. I wonder if that is sometimes happening to Amy and I. We catch ourselves complaining about church meetings and events and I think we need to be asking ourselves our where our hearts are really focused!

After church, we ran home and enjoyed some Marie Callendar's pie for Amy's birthday. It was awesome. We also enjoyed having Steve & Alisha join us for dessert. It's so great to see them. Jantzen and Aubrey just love playing with Mitchel and Payson. Fun times!

Next, we hustled over to the Dee Events Center in Ogden. It was the pioneer devotional tonight - a kickoff for the annual Odgen Pioneer Days. President Uchtdorf spoke and he did a marvelous job. I was so very impressed with his comments and the delivery of his words. He is such a great speaker and he is willing to really go out and make bold comments while teaching important truths. I was very impressed! What a great man. We had awesome seats and I caught myself staring at him, marveling at who he is and how The Lord has prepared him to be not only an Apostle of The Lord, but a member of the First Presidency. The thought came to me that he was truly called to that position before the world was created and he was prepared on earth as a young little boy. What a great man!

Speaking of revelation, as I was reading scriptures this weekend, I was touched and inspired that I need to look into signing Ashtyn and I up for dance lessons together. I want us to have bi-weekly dates, where we go out and learn how to Waltz, Foxtrot, etc together. Great idea

After the fireside, we enjoyed going to a little park, just east of the events center, walking around the duck pond and playing for a couple of hours before cuddling up together to enjoy the fireworks show. It was a very relaxing and nice evening together. If only my stomach was hurting so bad, but now I think I know the root-cause of the issue, which makes me feel much better.

Here are some photos of the day - definitely a great day - Happy Birthday to my sweet wife and eternal companion - what would I do without her!
