Day 6 of NC Vacation 2014

This was a very special day for our family! Today, little Baby Jarrett was blessed. What a beautiful little boy and what a sacred experience to be able to bless him. We performed the blessing in Dad's ward, the Weaverville Ward. They were so very accomodating and they even printed us a certificate for the blessing. Ryan and Jennica came up for the blessing (they met us at church). It was an incredible day!

Amy woke up at 5:30am in order to make sure that everything was ready! She worked her tail off, but we were still 10min late. We didn't miss sacrament, but they had to wait until after sacrament for the baby blessing. Amy felt so bad, but it was okay. I'm actually glad we had to wait - it gave me time to reflect upon the Savior, to get the spirit in my heart, and to full prepare for the baby blessing. It was a really great blessing as well. Here's some of the things that I remember about the blessing:

  • As I began, I was prompted to talk about Mom. I even blessed Jarrett to know that his Grandmother, whom he never will meet on this earth, will be his guardian angel - watching out for him, guiding him, teaching him and helping him in ways that not other could - very cool.
  • Jarrett was blessed to be a leader in all aspects of his life. A leader at home, with his friends, at church and thoughout his life. This part was very touching for me.
  • He was blessed to be baptized, to go on a mission and to marry in the temple. As I mentioned these things, I felt strong confirmation that these things will happen for Jarrett and it made me very happy.
  • Finally - he was also blessed to have a strong and able body and to be able to lead his family in righteousness.

It was a great blessing and I'm so happy that we were able to have this special moment as a family. It made the whole day special. I will try to post a photo once I download it from the SLR.

Ryan & Jennica stayed for lunch, then we had the evening to ourselves. Around 7pm, Dad got a call from the Bishop. There was a family that was heading back home to Columbia, SC from visiting family in TN. They had eaten dinner before leaving and they obviously got food poisoning. Everyone in the family was deathly ill and they actually stopped at a hotel in Mars Hill so they could bet over the pain. Dad and I went over and gave them each a blessing. It was a special experience and it was great to be with my Dad. We went to the store to get them some bananas, crackers, and pepto. As we were walking out, I felt prompted to pay for their hotel room. It was a really special experience for me - I felt like I was really being led and guided by the spirit. I need to do that more often!!
