It was really a great day on the 4th! Wow! We spent the morning relaxing a bit, working together as a family, letting the kids play, and going for a walk. We even took all of the kids down to the Barnardsville community pool, swam for about an hour and then watched their little parade - it is super tiny and pretty pathetic, but it was still fun for the kids.
Then, towards the late afternoon, Kathi Rutter and her son Austin showed up along with Jenny Seagraves. It was so much fun to have them around. We enjoyed an awesome dinner - I grilled burgers & brats and Amy made some incredible side dishes. Actually, Amy worked her little tail off pretty much the entire trip. I was very impressed with her. I think she was pretty exhausted by the end because she kep working so hard!
We enjoyed taking a walk in the neighborhood while we waited for dark to settle in. Austin brought his RC cars and the kids had a blast playing with them. It was really cool.
Once dark fell, we opened up the fireworks and we really had a blast. The canister fireworks were legit fireworks and they were incredible. Honestly, I can't believe I got 24 for only $80 - it was worth easily twice that. Really fun! We enjoyed sparklers and ground flowers and fountains - everything! It was great!
Unfortunately, poor Amy didn't have as much fun. She was busy taking care of Jarrett, taking care of Aubrey, who was afraid of the fireworks, taking care of everything, it seemed! I felt sorry for her - she's such an incredible Mom and women! I love her dearly!
The best part of the day though, was watching my Dad. He was having fun and he really enjoyed the company. My heart goes out to this great man - my hero in so many ways. He is so lonely now, without Mom. He let me now that he has started dating a bit and thta he already met someone. He's enjoying the opportunity to get to know someone else again, but he's really enjoying the fact that he's not lonely when he's with Robin. Her name is Robin Wallace. We'll have to see how things go with her. He will probably tell the rest of the family soon. It will be interesting....
Here are some photos of the fireworks and the carnage left afterwards. It really was a bunch of fun!! Can't wait until next year!
