Today was a really great day! I had a busy morning with meetings and 1-1's, but it was good. I even think I talked Naitik into staying on the team to work with Venkat. He's a good engineer, just doesn't feel like he's in a value-add position. I hope I helped him with that.
I also had a great 1-1 with Greg. He took me to lunch at East Moon. I had about 20 topics to discuss, and it went well. It turns out that we will NOT be able to have any career progressions this year, which is SUPER challenging for everyone. We will have to communicate this to everyone in the lab and it will initially be difficult for some of them to accept - oh well. Greg is also working on my promotion (hopefully to Senior Manager). It may take a while for any of this to get approved. I've not been very happy with how slow this process has been, but I know that Greg will keep fighting!
After my 1-1, I endured the worst part of the year - RANKING! But, it went pretty well. My staff had knocked it out in less than 1 hour and they were aligned pretty quickly. It was good to see such quick alignment. It is a little easier when the rank 3's are folks that are on transition from the LSI acquisition and the rank 1's are not "real". We didn't hit our numbers exactly, but since they don't mean anything this year (corporate is forcing everyone to a rank 2 this year), it was good enough.
After ranking, I held a couple more meetings and then I left work a little early again. I decided to jump over and play 9 holes. This time, I shot a 42 on the front, even with a double-bogey on the first after a horrible drive. But, I hit the ball well and I was super happy with the day. Shockingly, I played 9 holes in 1 hour and 15 minutes! AWESOME!! Here's my scorecard.
