Labor Day 2014

Today is the first day of September and I just realized that I only wrote in my journal one time in all of August. It is my goal to spend a little extra time this month catching up on things. But, for September, I plan to start the month of good.

We had a marvelous weekend together. It was fantastic. I will probably write 1-2 posts as I catch up from last month about the great things that happened. In a quick summary, we left around noon for Utah on Friday with the main goal of attending the open house for the newly renovated Ogden Temple. We also did many other wonderful things that I will detail as I catch up things. However, today was still part of the weekend as we had the day off from work. It was an awesome day!

First thing this morning, after getting everyone ready, we headed over to Hooper for the "Tomato Days" parade. It was very similar to the parade that we love to watch in Windsor each Labor Day. The kids scored tons of candy and the parade was only about 30min long (which was super nice!)

After the parade, we walked over to the park and enjoyed the carnival games and the extra large scones. Each of the carnival games was only 1 ticket and the tickets were 3 for $1. Incredibly cheap and the kids got to play everything (some games twice). The earned some fun prizes and it was fun to watch them enjoy themselves. Even Ashtyn got a kick out of the games. She was probably one of the oldest participants, but even I jumped in on a few of the games. It was really fun! I wish that I had taken a few photos of the morning, but I've been out of practice since my journaling has been so bad. Time to tighten things up a bit!

We finished with the Carnival around noon and we headed back to the Holt's to get things packed up. That went really fast and I even had time to help LaMar with their new HP Envy laptop that we bought them for their anniversary yesterday (40 years)! They were so excited!

Just as we finished, the folks at ADT gave me a call - they received a burgular alarm notification at our house! Wow! I didn't know who could be at our house, but I called around and learned that Lori Zenger was with some folks and they were returning the float to my garage. Honestly, I'm not really sure why it was returned to my garage, but now it's there. Although we didn't get to enjoy the float in the parade, it was nice to see some photos of the finished product. We spent at least 30 hours on this float, so I'm glad things finally worked out!

Here are some photos of the finished product - I heard that the parade went really well!

The drive home was very fast. We only stopped in Laramie and we made it home in less than 6.5 hours. We were on track to do a great job getting the kids to bed, but I did let them stay up too late watching "American Ninja Warrior". Need to do better at that - will try harder tomorrow.

Time for bed!!
