Cooper 5k and Box Trolls

I must admit, I love my Saturdays with the family. I'm actually pretty selfish with them and I DON'T like to see them over-scheduled. I want to spend time with the family and really enjoy being with them. Today was a great Saturday with some awesome accomplishments for the entire family.

In the morning, we split the family up. Amy took Ashtyn to catch the bus to the JV District Championship meet in Greeley. Amy followed the bus so that she could enjoy the match. Ashtyn did a GREAT job!! She shaved 2 seconds off her best times in BOTH the freestyle and the breast stroke. Her new PR's are 42sec for the Freestyle and 48sec for the breast stroke. The most incredible thing is how much she has improved her freestyle stroke. She used to be pretty slow rarely breaking 1 minute. She is SO much faster now and she looks so much better. With some work on starting and flip-turns, she's going to be INCREDIBLE!! Her fast breast stroke time may have earned her a top-7 ribbon - we shall see. It will be pretty close. There were 8 swimmers with times less than 49 seconds.. Here's a fun photo of Ashytn during her meet. I'm SO very proud of her. (Although we were split up in the morning, I did bring the rest of the family over to watch Ashtyn's last race - the breast stroke).

I took the rest of the family to the 2nd annual Cooper 5K run. I actually purchased entries for the entire family, but I didn't know about the swim meet. However, the rest of us had a great time. I put Jarrett in the stroller and Alyssa, Jantzen and Aubrey ran with me. They did really good for the first mile, running most of the way. After that, it was like pulling teeth to get them to run, but we made it. They finished the race really strong and they were proud of themselves in the end. It was by far the slowest 5k I've ever run, we finished at around 46 minutes - very long!! But, we ran together as a family and I was very proud of us all. Jantzen even sprinted the last part and finished a good 1-2 minutes faster. After the race, we hung around for some of the fun festivities. We blew $20 in a raffle, but it was for a good cause. The kids played on the slide, did face paint, and Jantzen even participated in the kids run, which was a pretty short little run. I helped him run at the end, but noticed that one of his shoes had partially come off somewhere along the way. He just kept running instead of stopping to fix it. That's my boy!! Here's some fun photos of the race:

After watching Ashtyn rock it at swimming (can I just say that I'm a VERY proud father of Ashtyn! She just did so GREAT!), I took the "runners" to the Cracker Barrell for lunch. It was a fun reward for a job well done. We were all just about starving, but it was worth it. Afterwards, we went home and we enjoyed a little quiet time at home. I did mow the lawn, which was very much needed, but I also spent 20-30 minutes just playing with baby Jarrett and making him giggle. It was VERY satisfying!

At about 5pm, I grabbed Jantzen and Aubrey from the Jones' home and took them and Jarrett into town. Amy had left with the two older girls to attend the Women's conference at the Stake Center. They also enjoyed the Coyote Grill before hand. After a quick trip to Target, I took the 3 little ones to see the movie "Box Trolls". It was a pretty good movie. There were a few scary parts, but we all cuddled up together and had a great time. Jarrett slept through nearly the entire movie, so it was worth it. We REALLY had fun together.

When we finally got the kids to bed, Amy and I were ready to collapse, but I spent 30 minutes helping Ashtyn work on her math homework. It is actually pretty fun to work with her on that. She's finally doing some fun things at school. It's special bonding time to do homework together!
