FHE is a divine program

I will definitely say that I really love FHE! It is so good to have a dedicated night of the week to be at home with the kids and to have a lesson. Tonight, we had the kids teach us using the felt boards and the scripture stories. Alyssa went first and taught us about the Daniel and the Lion's den. Next, Jantzen taught us about the crucifixion and resurrection of the Savior. Finally, Ashtyn taught us about Joseph and the 12 tribes of Israel. It was really great to see how well the kids know their scripture stories!

To review the weekend, on Saturday, we enjoyed our last full day with Aunt Tracie. In the morning, we just hung around the house while Tracie slept in. It was really nice to be a little lazy. I did get both the finances and the taxes done, which was good. Amy and I also stopped by Manweiler appliance to pick out our dishwasher, microwave and fridge. We ended up calling and getting a different fridge, though, as we realized the other fridge was going to be too large. We're pretty happy with our purchases, though!

The kids all had a pretty busy day on Saturday. Aubrey had Sophie's birthday party at 10am, Jantzen went to play with Ethan Sadler at 11am, and Ashtyn spent 3.5 hours with Payton starting at noon. Ashtyn also had Connor Murray and Jena Medlyn over at noon to practice their musical number (I am a Child of God) on the Cello. All of the kids practiced piano, and in general, the house was very busy and noisy all Saturday morning.

Finally, at 4pm, we all went to the movies to enjoy "Mr. Peabody and Sherman". It was a great little movie and we all had a blast. Once again, Tracie had a hard time sitting still and she missed a good part of the ending since she had to get up and leave. Weird - weird....

After the movie, we snuck off to Fort Fun and we spend about an hour playing arcade games and having fun together. Tracie and I even had a fun round of air hockey together. It was fun! I beat her at air hockey, but she owned me at Arctic Cat (see below):

After Fort Fun, we went to Culver's for dinner. It was greasy fast food, but it was good. On the drive home, Jantzen had a great dialogue with Tracie:

  • Jantzen: "Aunt Tracie - I saw you smoking today."
  • Tracie: "Yep, I smoke, but it's a really yucky, nasty habit and you should never even try to smoke!"
  • Jantzen: "Then why do you smoke?"
  • Tracie: "Because I'm stupid!"
It is amazing how direct little kids can be! I was very impressed that Jantzen was willing to be so straight forward with Tracie. I hope she really thought about this conversation. I was impressed!

Finally, I must mention that our family had a GREAT Sunday. I took Tracie to the airport, then made it back to church with time to spare. So, I spent the time developing a slide-show for my class with the Young Men. I was so excited to teach. Unfortunately, my laptop ran out of battery 10 minutes into my lesson and I left the charger at home! Yuck! But, at least the lesson went well.

Ashtyn did her first musical performance at church. She played in a cello trio with Connor and Jena. They sounded great and I was very impressed with her willingness to play. Ashtyn hasn't even been playing for very long, so I was impressed. She really seems to enjoy playing as well!

After church, we had a very nice afternoon together. We went on a bike ride, we played games together and we just enjoyed being together. No meetings, no responsibilities, it was GREAT!!! Here's a fun photo of the family hanging out of the sunroof as we first got home from church. I really love this crazy little bunch!! (Only 6 weeks until we add another to the crew!)
