It finally happened! After nearly 10 months as the YM presidency, we finally scheduled and held a very successful campout with the boys. We originally had 18 boys signed up to go, but only 13 showed up. That worked out pretty good as we were struggling with some transportation issues. Jamie Hardy and I both had to return early on Saturday to attend Coby Ford's baptism, so have a few less boys worked out pretty good.
Here are some great photos that I took during the campout.
Here's Jack Burns and Braden Kelly. Pretty amazing that Jack is nearly a Priest, but he's not much bigger than Braden. Jack is probably one of my favorite young men, though. He's got a fantastic attitude and he really does well in leadership roles.
Ryan Hawkins, with his son Tyler. They both slept in hammocks and stayed really warm. I am so very glad to have Ryan as our Scoutmaster. He does an incredible job with the boys and he and his wife are really helping us get organized in our YM presidency. We have a ton left to learn, but are having fun. I love serving with these guys!
Another one of my favorite guys to work with is Matt Kelly. I am amazed that I was told that he was once less active in a previous Ward. In my mind, he's a rock star and I really love working with him. He's one of our Assistant Scoutmasters and he gets along great with the boys. He also does a good job of being a "leader" and not a "dad" when we camp. He's a good example for me!
Definitely one of my favorite people in the Ward, Jonathan Knight is a stud! He's speaks in church on Sunday and he'll do a great job. He had a challenging adolescence, which makes him a super leader for the boys. He knows from experience the right from the wrong (and he has a tattoo to prove it!). I love this guy!
Travis & Thomas Chadwick brought their non-member friend Cameron as well as Derek Killian from the Windsor Ward. Derek cracks me up because he always wears shorts, even in the dead of winter. This was a pretty cold campout (I was FREEZING) and Derek just chilled in his shorts! During the fireside on Friday night, I went around the boys and asked each on individually if they were going on a mission. I think it is funny that Cameron (the non-member) responded "yes" without hesitation!
Here's a great shot of Preston Greene and Brennen Seyboldt. These two are the best basketball players in our youth group and they are both Deacons. I can't wait to watch how good they become as they get older! I'm hoping that Jantzen (and Jarrett) play as well as these two down the road! In the background, you can also see Jamie Hardy. I really rely on this guy. He's one of the rocks of our Presidency and I'm glad we have him!
Preston and Jack were in charge of cooking dinner on Friday night. We had sloppy joes using actual Manwich mix. They tasted pretty good, but they definitely weren't healthy (27% fat in the meat).
Kaden Henry, Braden Kelly and Jake Cormack (background) all took turns making breakfast. We had breakfast burritos and they were pretty good. It took a while for the potatoes to cook, but they turned out well.
I really love this photo of Jamie Hardy cracking some egges with Thomas Chadwick. They cracked 48 eggs and the boys ate all of them!
Definitely one of the funniest parts of the campout was seeing some shoes up the flagpole! These belonged to Jack, Brennen, Connor Murray, and Preston. I think Tyler Hawkins was responsible for this prank. All in good fun!
On Saturday morning, Jamie and I headed home at 8am so that we could get ready for Coby's baptism. I must say that it was an incredible baptism. Wow!! The spirit was really strong. The sister missionaries sang a great song together, which invited the spirit, but then Jeff Baer gave a talk that was truly amazing. I was so touched by his thoughts. I've always loved the Ford family and it was so great to see Coby finally enter the waters of Baptism. Jamie Hardy preformed the ordinance and did a great job. It was also fun to go to the baptism with Jantzen. He's a really good kid and I can't believe that he will be baptized in just over a year.
The rest of Saturday was pretty awesome. I was pretty much on a "date" with Jantzen. We did Chick-Fil-A for lunch, bought some weed killer for the lawn at the Poudre Valley Co-op and then we just chilled at home. The girls went to see the Windsor High Winter Guard (Hannah Mayle was performing) so Jantzen and I stayed home, played Wii and watched "Against the Wild" together. It was really fun to be with Jantzen for that much time. He really needed some Dad-time!
Tomorrow is the 3rd Sunday, which means that I will have a VERY busy day!
